Regimental Band Mission Statement The VMI Regimental Band was formed in 1947 and consists of 125 cadets from every class and major within the Corps of Cadets. The Regimental Band has performed in all major parade events throughout the Nation and abroad. In April 1997, the Band held a Tattoo in honor of its 50th year of service to the Institute and the State of Virginia in which seven military bands from across the nation participated. Recent honors include first place awards at the St. Patrick's Day Parade in New York City (1992, 1996, 1997, 1999) and has been chosen seven times as the "Queens Band," the featured post for the Bands appearing at the Endymion Parade; the largest Parade at the New Orleans Mardi Gras (1990-1998). In 1989, the Band also performed as Virginia's representative at the French Bicentennial in Paris, France.
The Regimental Band and its compliment units perform in excess of 150 commitments annually. Featured weekly at parades on post, the Regimental Band often performs for parades and sporting events around the country such as Jackson, Miss (1998), West Point, NY (1990,1995), Greensboro, NC (1996-1999), Charleston, SC (1991-1998), and Annapolis, MD (1996,1998). The band travels in excess of 10,000 miles each year as the musical ambassadors to the Corps of Cadets. A live recording of the VMI Regimental Band is available through Col. Brodie; Cd's are $12 and tapes are $6. |
