Clubs and Organizations

There are more than 50 clubs, organizations, and societies which meet the special interests of cadets, ranging from a society for each Armed Service to the VMI Theater, Civil War Round Table, International Club, The Promaji Club, and other diversified activities.

All clubs, club sports, and organizations encourage participation by qualified first year students.  Usually "Cadets-In-Charge" and other leadership positions are held by upperclassmen that have demonstrated their abilities and interests through active participation in their respective organization.

Social Organizations

There are no social fraternities at VMI. The major social events of the year are sponsored by the Cadet Program Board, the Program Board President is Cadet Chip Hancock & Bill Talley at HancockTF@mail.vmi.edu or TalleyWH@mail.vmi.edu

Religious Services

Strong religious convictions are fully respected and high moral principles fully supported by both faculty and the Corps of Cadets.   Activities designed to nurture the religious life are encouraged by the Chaplain of the Corps, whose responsibilities include planning and conducting non-denominational services and personal counseling.  Cadets may also attend denominational church services of their preference in the city of Lexington.

Parents Council

The Parents Council was established to:

provide a forum for the interchange of ideas and information between parents of cadets and Institute officials;  create an organization to formulate and administer plans and projects;  bring the parents of cadets into closer association with VMI; aid in the growth and development of the VMI Foundation; and to assist the Institute in providing for the welfare and development of cadets.  The Parents Council consists of approximately sixty (60) parents of cadets.  The Superintendent appoints members of the Council, 50% from Virginia, and 50% from outside the state.  There are four main committees in the Council: Development, New Cadet Recruiting, Cadet Life, and New Cadet Parents.
